Job Purpose: Helps optometry patients by providing information, services, and assistance. Duties:

    • Verifies patient information by interviewing patient; recording medical history;confirming purpose of visit.
    • Checks condition of patients' eyes by observing pupils, muscle, visual acuity, extraocular movements, intraocular pressure and blood pressure.
    • Prepares patients for eye examination by dilating their pupils
    • Secures patient information by completing and safeguarding medical records; completing diagnostic coding and procedure coding; keeping patient information confidential.
    • Counsels patients by transmitting optometrist's orders, use of drops, contact lenses, drugs, and questions about surgery.
    • Maintains safe, secure, and healthy work environment by establishing and following standards and procedures; complying with legal regulations.
    • Inventory stock; placing orders; verifying receipt.
    • Keeps equipment operating by following operating instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns; maintaining supplies; performing preventive maintenance; calling for repairs.
    • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications.

    Full time energetic, optometric receptionist needed for busy established 3 doctor eye clinic in Regina area. Job is a team environment of four other staff members.  Experience in eye care strongly preferred. Salary depends upon experience and training. Tasks include:

    Appointment scheduling. 

    • Scheduling contact lens fits and optometric procedures.

    Operational functions:

    • Dispensing replacement contact lenses
    • cash drawer management (reconciling, balancing, deposits).
    • Obtaining referrals and entering referrals.

    Check-in desk:

    • Chart preparation;
    • answering telephones, taking messages and routing calls;
    • collecting fees;
    • patient registration;
    • chart organizing and management
    • Sort the clinic magazines each week.

    Quality Control:

    • Routing slip management.
    • Final chart checkout (confirm completion of billing charges).
    • Filing processed charts.
    • Sorting and delivery mail.
    • Collecting and posting co-payments and service payments.
    • Optimizing and managing patient flow schedule for all doctors.

    Appointment/billing desk:

    • Triage of telephone calls for eye problems.
    • Refilling medication prescriptions by telephone, fax and in person.
    • Releasing CL and spectacle prescriptions
    • Processing patient recalls: cards and computerized phone calls.
    • Patient insurance benefits verification.

    • choose the appropriate frame to satisfy the client's comfort, appearance and prescription requirements
    • discuss and recommend types of lenses and/or lens enhancements
    • make sure that lenses conform to the prescription of the optometrist
    • shape the lenses and fit the lenses to the frame, making sure that the lenses meet quality standards
    • make sure that the new eyewear fits correctly and comfortably
    • carry out minor repairs to damaged frames.
